Austin + Bay Area IT Hiring Report
Issue #5 · Week of Apr 27 – May 3, 2026
Indeed data is in. 1,223 postings Dice didn't surface, dominated by Amazon's cloud ecosystem.
|
|
This is the first issue with both Dice and Indeed. The two sources surface different companies, not just bigger numbers on the same names. Indeed's top of the list is the Amazon ecosystem (five Amazon entities, 117 postings) plus Annapurna Labs reposting the same SDE role twelve times. Dice continues to lead on contract and MSP signal. Read both.

Our take: Visa is running two separate accelerations. The "Visa" entity grew 66% on SRE roles. "Visa Inc." grew 23% on cybersecurity. If you place either skill in Austin or the Bay, that's the call this week.

Struggling-to-fill signal · Annapurna Labs reposted the same Sr. SDE role 12 times in the Bay this week. Plus five more SDE titles at 5–6 reposts each. They cannot fill silicon SW engineers fast enough. Marvell hit the same wall on Hardware & Silicon Validation (5x repost). DGN Technologies has a ServiceNow HRSD BSA reposted 5x and it's VMS-locked.

Spotlight · Network Engineering
214 network roles open. Defense and Federal lead.
|
|
A reader asked us to break out network engineering specifically. Across both metros and both sources we found 214 active network postings from clients (94 Austin, 120 Bay Area), plus 29 from competing staffing firms. Top demand sits inside Defense and Federal accounts.

Our take: Defense and Federal own the network buyer side, ServiceNow's 8x reposted Federal Network Ops role is the single hottest seat. Competition is concentrated on the staffing side too. Motion Recruitment and Sriven each placed six network roles this week, those are your direct competitors if you specialize here.

Our take: If you specialize in financial services, the Visa entities, Citi, Charles Schwab, and Allstate are all hiring hard this week. Defense BDs should be calling General Dynamics, Lockheed, and Leidos. Healthcare is thinner overall but UnitedHealth alone is at 46.

Our take: DGN's ServiceNow HRSD role being VMS-locked means it's already inside an MSP funnel. If you're not on their approved list, the posting is invisible economically even though it's public. Track the others as net-new accounts.

Our take: Apetan and TEKsystems both jumped this week. Apetan is loading up on Python and Tableau. TEKsystems went from 0 to 13 in seven days, suggesting a fresh contract win. If you compete in those skills, you just learned someone else got there first.

What's working, what's missing?
Issue #5 added Indeed coverage, an industry breakdown, and the Network Engineering spotlight. We want to know which of these earned a place in your Monday workflow and which we should drop.
· Is the Indeed coverage useful or noise?
· Did the industry breakdown change which section you read first?
· Is the Network Engineering spotlight something to repeat for other role categories (cybersecurity, data, cloud)?
· Which metro should be next: Dallas, Seattle, Raleigh, NYC, or somewhere else?
A reader pointed out a few weeks back that posting volume shows visible demand but not which accounts are actually accessible. The MSP/VMS flag and Indeed integration are partial answers, not full ones. If you have ideas on how to close that gap, we want to hear them.

Data pulled from Dice and Indeed, April 27 to May 3, 2026. 5,585 client postings analyzed across 1,350 companies, 4,362 from Dice and 1,223 from Indeed (first issue with Indeed integrated). Counts reflect active IT postings per company, deduplicated within each source. Trending Up compares this week against last week's raw posting file. New Movers shows companies with zero postings last week and at least five this week. Repeat Roles flags identical title plus company plus metro combinations posted five or more times. MSP/VMS detection scans postings for Beeline, Fieldglass, IQNavigator, VMS, MSP, or third-party language. Industry tagging covers 2,061 postings across eight verticals.
